Merzouga
Merzouga is a small enchanting village, considered to be one of the gates of the Sahara. Is located in the middle of the sands under the territory of the Erg Chebbi. Erg Chebbi, 20 km long and 5 km wide, is reputed as the highest sand dunes in North Africa, while Merzouga is known to have the largest natural underground body of water in Morocco.
It is a unique and diverse environment. In this small village not only you will experience the life of Moroccan desert people and their hospitality but also you can revive the nomadic Berber lifestyle. Ride a camel among the dunes, see the sunset in the middle of the desert, sleep in a camp, and spent a magic night under the Sahara stars. Near Merzouga, you can find the lake “Dayet Sarji”. In the middle of the desert is established a wide variety of ecosystems, the richest in Morocco. Depending on the period of the year you visit, you may also see its bird population such as the “Flamingos”.
